As a nurse in our department, you will receive special training to provide hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, renal replacement therapy (RRT) and both plasmapheresis and leukapheresis. You’ll supervise CNAs and provide support for dialysis treatments in our intensive care units. With low patient-nurse ratios, you have more time to focus on interacting with patients and managing their care.

The CNAs in this department operate the dialysis machines and provide a full array of direct patient care, monitoring and reporting on treatment, assisting with meals, toileting and the like. With a 2:1 patient-tech ratio, you also have the opportunity to care for patients on emotional and spiritual levels, as well as for their physical needs. In this role, you must have your CNA and CPR certifications, and experience in dialysis is preferred. You must obtain hemodialysis certification within 18 months of beginning employment.

Why Choose OSF?

At OSF HealthCare, we recognize the value you bring to our organization’s success. We strive to provide a culture that is unique. That includes a supportive work environment, access to new opportunities and promotion of work-life balance. One example is that our Hemodialysis Department does not schedule nurses and techs to be “on call.”

These are among the reasons why, for the second year in a row, OSF HealthCare has been named one of the best employers in the country for 2019 by Forbes magazine, and the highest ranked Illinois-based health care system to earn the distinction.
