Job Description

Description

Follows established policies, procedures, and performs and records Echocardiology diagnostic tests.  In doing so, obtains information about normal and abnormal anatomy used to diagnosis disease.  Ensure ultrasound tests are of acceptable quality and records results.  Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit(s). 

 

This requires that the incumbent demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the patient population served.

 

 

Requires a professional level of knowledge of echocardiology techniques and must be able to independently perform diagnostic echocardiograms procedures. 

 

At least 1 year training in echocardiology specific to patient populations. 

 

 

General knowledge of echocardiology imaging operations and therapeutic principles and procedures, and equipment operations at a level normally acquired through completion of training. 

 

Certification as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) (Preferred) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)

  and certification in 3 patient populations.

 

 

Communicates effectively with patients when allaying fears and eliciting cooperation, and to relay patient information to physicians and nursing personnel.

 

 

Requires analytical ability to recognize anatomic abnormalities, adjust equipment settings to appropriately target the ultrasound, and identify irregularities during course of ultrasound and notify appropriate personnel.

 

 

Prioritizes and organize daily work load while paying close attention to detail.

 

 

Requires BLS certification
