Job Description


The Speech/Language Pathologist, under the direction of the Director of Rehabilitation Services, provides a continuum of services including prevention, identification, diagnosis, consultation, and treatment of patients regarding speech/language skills, oral/pharyngeal swallowing function, cognitive/linguistic skills and hearing in neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Provides education to patients, families, and staff.  Communicates and cooperates with physicians and other disciplines.  Works independently with a variety of assigned populations/settings which may include Inpatient, Outpatient, Developmentally-Disabled Adults, and School-Age Children.



  • M.S. or M.A. Degree in Speech/Language Pathology from an accredited college or university.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or active pursuit of the CCC through completion of all Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) requirements within one year of employment.
  • Successful completion of the National Examination in Speech/Language Pathology administered by ASHA.
  • Upon receipt of the Certificate of Clinical Competence, valid licensure by the State of Illinois Department of Professional Regulation must be applied for and maintained.
  • Valid Illinois State Board of EducationType 10 Teacher’s Certification with additional credentials in Early Intervention may also be required.
  • CPR required.
  • CFY candidate meeting employment criteria may be considered.
  • Must possess good human relations/communications skills, Speech/Language Pathology clinical competence; critical thinking/problem solving and judgment skills.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and skills to care for neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics, providing a therapeutic and safe environment in the various settings, relative to the patients’ age-specific needs.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record and have current car insurance with a minimum liabilitycoverage of $100,000.
  • Employees are required to report moving violations that occur while on or off duty or any change in driver’s license status.
  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times.



  •  One year of clinical experience is preferred.
