Description

The Diabetes Educator has specific responsibilities in the evaluation of each patient with diabetes. The educator must be skilled in the teaching-learning process and have an extensive background and understanding of diabetes, including diabetes management and complications. The educator has the responsibility, and must have the capability to evaluate the effectiveness of the teaching and learning that has been provided. The Diabetes Educator protects, promotes and restores health and wellness of the patient with diabetes by practicing at the highest level of licensure; collaborating with providers and multidisciplinary care team members to provide care coordination to the patient. The Diabetes Educator is a member of a multidisciplinary team who cares for, educates and motivates patients with diabetes to live a healthy lifestyle.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Must be one of the following:

Graduate of an accredited RN program, OSF Healthcare Nursing Division requires that all employees beginning employment as a Registered Nurse on or after October 1, 2015 are required to earn a BSN degree within six years from Date of Hire and proof of enrollment within your first 18 months of employment.

or

Registered Dietician

or

Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist

 

 

Previous experience with patients in a group or individual setting

 

Basic knowledge of medical terminology and medical billing

 

 

Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist eligible (Illinois)

 

OSF Healthcare requires Diabetes Educator to earn Certified Diabetes Educator through the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE) within three years from Date of Hire.

 

 

Demonstrates strong organizational skills in coordinating services with others

 

Basic knowledge of medical terminology and medical billing

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Certified diabetes educator or CDE eligible

 

 

 

CPR – American Heart Association (BLS for Health Care Providers)
