Job Description


Reports to the Chief Medical Officer and provides day to day oversight and direction to the Credentialing Coordinators and Medical Staff Coordinator in keeping with the Bylaws of the Professional Staff and the OSF Healthcare System Medical and Allied Health Staff Credentialing Policy and Procedure manual. Ensures the provision of an effective privileging system that enhances our Value of providing a caring response to the physical and emotional needs of our patients by assisting in assuring that the medical care they receive is given by individuals who are qualified for the privileges they receive and maintain. Remains current in regulatory matters relevant to the credentialing and privileging process (i.e. JC, IDPH and NCQA) and ensures compliance with Medical Center Policies, Procedures and Bylaws. Serves as an essential link to the University of Illinois College of Medicine leadership in matters involving medical students, residents, and fellows here at the Medical Center.




Work requires an advanced level of knowledge of the medical services profession and credentialing and privileging at a level demonstrated through attainment and maintenance of a Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist certification (CPCS) and/or Certified Professional Medical Staff Manager (CPMSM) within 1 year of employment or when first eligible to apply for examination as determined by the National Association of Medical Staff Services (NAMSS).



Work requires 2 to 4 years of progressively more responsible work experience in a hospital Medical Staff Office or Credentialing Verification Office in order to lead the work of others, learn the requirements of regulatory and accrediting bodies, learn the development and implementation of credentialing/privileging processes and procedures, learn to understand and adhere to governance bylaws, and how to collect/analyze verification information and maintain an accurate provider database.


Equivalent experience will be considered.



Work requires the interpersonal and communication skills necessary to effectively work with physicians, residents/fellows, faculty, and other licensed healthcare practitioners including midlevel providers such as Physician Assistants and Advanced Practice Nurses, to explain policies pertaining to medical staff, and to be able to lead and assign work to others. 



Work requires advanced analytical ability and independent judgment in order to gather and interpret information and data relevant to a professionals credentials and qualifications and their request for privileges to ensure safe patient care.



Work requires ethical conduct and the ability to respect and preserve confidential information entrusted in the course of professional practice; reveals confidential information only as needed and in accordance with any applicable law.
