Description

The Billing and Coding Specialist is responsible for supporting management in the coding and billing of accounts for professional and facility claims. The coder, complimented with clinical knowledge and understanding of the complexity of assigned departments and workflows, enhances the potential to prevent loss of revenue, optimize charge capture, and adhere to compliance issues. Assign and sequence ICD-10-CM/CPT diagnostic and procedural codes for designated service line for data retrieval, billing, and reimbursement. Audit and assess documentation for accurate abstracting of clinical data to meet regulatory and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education: Associate’s Degree or Coding Diploma

 

Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II coding guidelines through completion of coding certification (RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CCA, CPC, COC, CPB, CPMA or other approved certification).

 

1-2 years’ experience in revenue cycle including charging and billing processes.

 

Previous experience assigning professional service codes.

 

1-2 years acute/ambulatory care ICD-10-CM and CPT coding experience.

 

Excellent verbal and written skills to appropriately support provider education requirements. 

 

Expertise in applying payer policy, Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs), and National Coverage Determinations (NCDs) for successful claim submissions.

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Previous clinical or clerical work experience, preferably in a specialty office.

 

Revenue Cycle Certified Professional I, II, or III or other Revenue Cycle certification

 

Experience using Encoder software.

 

Advanced computer skills, PC experience w/ Windows-based applications.
