Reporting to the INI Clinical Services Manager and reports clinically to the Medical Director of the Neuro-ophthalmology Clinic performs initial interviewing of patients and a wide variety of specialized ophthalmic testing procedures for patients presenting for evaluation in the neuro-ophthalmology clinic, and assists the subspecialty physician as requested in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. Also provides testing modalities in the acute care setting as ordered by neuroscience providers as well as other provides of other disciplines. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
The job incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the unit.
This requires that the incumbent demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the patient population served.
Approximately 1 year ophthalmic office experience and 1 to 3 months on the job experience necessary to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of area policies and procedures and to fulfill quality and quantity standards of the job.
Knowledge of testing techniques; utilization of specialized equipment; and refraction knowledge and experience is preferred.
Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, families, and physicians up to ninety percent of work time; and to demonstrate empathy and sensitivity necessary to elicit patients cooperation and allay apprehensions and to interact with hospital departments.
Analytical skills necessary in order to gather and interpret quantitative data to potentially complex patient care problems.
Certification is preferred.
Specialized training for the operation of fundus camera equipment is preferred.
