Description

Position is responsible for participating in highly complex, technically specialized tasks involved in preparing, examining, and diagnostically analyzing chromosomes found in biological specimens such as amniotic fluids, bone marrow, and blood to aid in diagnosis and treatment of genetic diseases. In doing so documents findings and activities according to departmental terminology and protocols including; identifying abnormalities, rendering diagnoses and allocating cases for quality control or subsequent review by the department medical director. Position will also be required to perform and interpret in situ DNA hybridization and other molecular testing techniques. Position will operate and be expected to troubleshoots complex computerized biomedical imaging equipment and ensures ongoing quality assurance. Position will also assist with the technical oversight and direction of routine cytogenetic processing procedures in order to ensure high quality, diagnostic throughput in the department. Position requires technical diagnostic expertise, attention to detail and the analytic skills required to remedy any technical difficulties encountered.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Bachelor Degree with successful completion of a NAACLS accredited program or ASCP/AMT certification i.e. MLS/MT/CLS.

 

 

1 year of Laboratory experience.

 

 

CG  (ASCP) or MB or MLS/MT/CLS (ASCP or AMT) with CG (ASCP) or MB (ASCP) certification within 1 year.

 

Technical expertise necessary in order to interpret tests, recognize abnormal test results, validate and optimize new testing platforms, synthesize complex technical procedures and troubleshoot technical or equipment issues.

 

 

Analytical skills necessary to interpret and determine appropriate specimen preparation method, and to evaluate suitability of slides and stains produced.

 

 

Ability to work on several projects at one time with good organizational skills, judgment and technical skills.

 

 

 

Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively and communicate with patients and other health care professionals.

 

 

High level of professionalism and skillful performance in stressful situations.

 

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1 year of full time experience in a Cytogenetic Laboratory.
