DescriptionReporting to the Patient Care Manager and according to department standards, functions as a member of the Patient Care Team. In doing so, greets and talks with patients, family members and visitors, assists them with information/services during their stay and performs duties/tasks related to acceptance/transfer of patients on unit, registration or transfer of patients, schedules outpatient examinations/tests, and the like. Assembles and maintains patient charts ensuring documents are filed in charts in a timely manner. May run errands and transport patients for patient care unit staff upon request. Strong customer service and hospitality skills required.
Work requires ability to read, write and communicate effectively at a level generally acquired through completion of a high school education.
Work experience in customer service and hospitality.
Requires up to four weeks on-the-job training and successful completion of the training program in order to learn department/unit policies, procedures and work routines; become familiar with medical terminology; learn use of computer system; and become familiar with locations of various departments throughout the Medical Center.
Requires the interpersonal skills necessary to greet and provide information to visitors, answer department telephones, and communicate effectively with other members of the Patient Care Team.
Requires analytical ability necessary to prioritize own work load to ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner.
Exceptional courtesy, tact, and liaison skills necessary in order to interact with patients, families and visitors.
