The job incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned unit(s).
This requires the incumbent to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of human growth and development, as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the patient population served.
Work requires a professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice in order to evaluate, develop and revise care delivery plans, conduct required research, and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of a Master's Degree from an accredited School of Nursing.
Current State license as a Registered Nurse required.
Licensure as an APN in the state of Illinois.
Current CPR and ACLS certification.
Approximately 3 to 5 years progressively more responsible related work experience, with 1 to 2 years experience in assigned specialty area necessary to gain advanced competence in nursing knowledge, skills, procedures, standards, practice, and research.
Obtain APN Pain Care Specialist certification from an approved nursing or pain management organization within first 4 years of employment.
Advanced interpersonal skills are necessary to instruct patients and families, communicate complex theoretical and technical concepts to all levels of department personnel, and collaborate effectively with other healthcare team members.
Advanced analytical skills necessary in order to develop, recommend and improve nursing care, policies and procedures, evaluate Nursing Practice Act and Joint Commission compliance, develop educational programs, and conduct scholarly research.
Satisfactory completion of the ambulatory core nursing orientation.
Annual completion of department-specific competency checklist.
