Job Description


Responsible for the daily operations of designated department/s. Assists the Manager in financial, capital and human resources to ensure services meet established quality and productivity standards, and takes corrective action as necessary. Ensures the provision of high quality services in accordance with Medical Center and regulatory requirements.    Responsible for departmental personnel ensuring orientation, training, scheduling, coaching, counseling, discipline, performance, and human resource activities are completed. Serves as a steward of department assets in relation to staff utilization and purchasing, setting a high standard of personal performance and serving as a role model for mission partners.




An associate’s degree as a Clinical Laboratory Technician with the successful completion of the ASCP or AMT Board of Certification CLT exam or obtained within the first year of employment and 3-5 years’ experience


Alternative associate’s degrees are acceptable with successful completion of ASCP or AMT CLT/HT/CLS certification exam prior to employment and 3-5 years’ experience.


Bachelor’s degree (BS or BA) in a science field such as Biology or Chemistry, with at least 3 years of work experience in a clinical lab setting.


Alternative bachelor’s degrees will be considered with 3-5 years’ work experience in a laboratory, healthcare, or quality role.


Excellent verbal and written communication skills and possess independent decision making skills.


Change management skills in order to adapt and lead in a frequently changing environment.


Strong organizational skills to effectively manage multiple tasks and initiatives during a given time frame.


Ability to develop and sustain strong staff and interdepartmental relationships.


Possess a moderate level of expertise with Computer/MS Office.






A bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science. 


Successful completion of the ASCP registry exam within 1 year of employment.



2 preferably in a supervisory/leadership role, with proven ability to direct and influence others to achieve common goals. 


In lieu of experience in a supervisory title, a proven track record of successful leadership competencies, such as project management, performance improvement leadership roles, and/or acting in an educational leadership role


Experience with Phlebotomy


Experience leading to competency in project management, performance improvement, and/or an education role.


Experience with quantitative analysis/ability to generate, manipulate, and assess data.
