Description

The Transfer Center Support Specialist is responsible for facilitating patient transfers from regional hospitals to the appropriate care setting by conferencing appropriate doctors, charting the process and patient information in the electronic record and collaborating with the RN Coordinator for proper bed placement, as well as with LifeFlight, AMT, Lifeline and other ambulance services to aid the sending hospitals in transporting patients.  The Support Specialist will team with the Patient Flow and Transfer Center Coordinator assisting with admissions, discharges, transfers within the OSF facilities via use of electronic bed board and transfer center technology to facilitate flow; and assists non-OSF facilities with appropriate patient placement. The Support Specialist will be a resource for initiating and managing patient accounts in the EMR from pre-admission to discharge, answering high volume of patient-related calls regarding set up and maintenance of accounts, bed placement information, from regional transfers and direct admits.

 

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

High School Diploma

 

1 year customer service role or one year in an office/clerical role.

 

Computer knowledge, i.e. Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Powerpoint, SmartWeb, Outlook, etc.

 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to answer telephones, exchange information and communicate clearly and tactfully.

 

Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with a wide variety of personnel, physicians and outside callers when gathering and exchanging approved information.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Associates degree in a health related field

 

EMS Certification
