Description

The Manager, Coding Education is responsible for the management of daily operations and delivery of coding education and staff assigned to the coding education section. The role is responsible for implementing a quality assurance, education and standards program for the HIM coding teams and providers on the EHR system. The HIMs leadership is responsible for development of timely feedback processes to ensure optimal revenue capture and high quality data. This position will work closely with the Coding Quality Manager to ensure there is timely and effective feedback to coding team members regarding coding standards, documentation, and education on various clinical conditions and procedures to improve operational performance and quality metrics.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or related field.

 

 

4 years’ experience in hospital coding.

 

Working knowledge of ICD-10 principles and application, DRG and APC grouping principles and logic, Medicare coding rules and regulations, and Official Coding guidelines.

 

 

Certification in one or more of the following: RHIA, RHIT, CCS or CPC

 

 

Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with coding staff, physicians and a variety of other department in the OSF Ministry involved in various learning activities.

 

Advanced analytical and interpersonal skills necessary in collecting, analyzing, and reporting departmental quality and education progress indicators ensuring compliance with regulatory data requirements, establishing coding area goals and initiating performance improvement through education.

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

2 years’ in a supervisory role in hospital coding.

 

Working knowledge of EPIC EMR, Encoder applications, and revenue cycle applications.
