Job Description

Description

The EMT - Basic drives ambulance in response to emergency situations such as fires, automobile or other accidents, cardiac arrests, traumatic injuries, etc. Assesses patient’s condition and performs basic and intermediate life support treatments and interventions to stabilize patients for transport in accordance with defined standard and protocols.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

 

Knowledge of first aid and basic advanced life support procedures at a level normally acquired through a post high school Emergency Medical Technician – Intermediate education and training in an approved program required. 

 

Maintains clinical and continuing education hours as established by the East Central Illinois EMS System.

 

 

Knowledge of emergency medical service protocols and skills in administering medications and performing complex emergency medical procedures at a level normally acquired through six months related experience and training.

 

 

State of Illinois EMT-B or EMT-I license required.

 

CPR Certification required.

 

Valid driver’s license.

 

Must be at least 18 years of age and have a safe driving record in order to be insured by carrier.

 

 

Required within 90 Days

      • HAZMAT awareness

      • Technical Rescue Awareness

      • NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800

 

 

Required within 6 months for EMT-I license

      • Intermediate Trauma Life Support

      • ACLS

      • PALS or PEPP (Pediatric Education for Prehospital Providers)

 

 

Basic computer knowledge required.
