The Patient Intake Representative is responsible for receiving referral orders and accurately completing intake paperwork. This position builds effective relationships with referring sources by providing support to patients, staff, and physicians during order processing. The rep will initiate insurance benefit verification and initial authorization of services with the patient’s insurance company. The rep will act as a liaison between insurance companies and the clinician/patient by communicating the need for home medical equipment services and obtaining the proper authorizations. Maintains knowledge of coverage criteria and reimbursement for HME.
Responsibilities may include gathering information from medical records, patients, families, and health care team members to assist in completing the order in a timely and efficient manner. Ensures initial equipment is delivered promptly to patients and communicates with referral sources when unable to meet delivery expectations. Works with HME leadership to ensure services run efficiently.
Duties may include non-clinical related functions (i.e. making copies and faxing information as needed by referral to contracted vendor.) Assist in transfer of delivery paperwork for reimbursement. The incumbent is in daily contact with patients, family members and members of the health care team and require excellent human relations and communication skills.
Demonstrates ability to work independently and execute own workload.
Must be able to use and operate medical and/or office equipment/computers
Knowledge of reimbursement and regulatory requirements for HME.
Experience working with government and accrediting agency officials.
Demonstrates excellent communication, human relations, and analytical and problem solving skills.
Expected to take department on-call on rotating basis.
