Description

The Patient Safety/Quality Improvement Specialist is a role filled by a competent and passionate individual with a broad clinical background who has experience in performance improvement tools and methodologies. The Patient Safety/Quality Improvement Specialist is responsible for spearheading specific patient safety/quality initiatives related to the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals, national indicators, OSF corporate strategic initiatives or internally born patient safety/quality initiatives.  These initiatives can be very complex, time sensitive and span multiple service lines.  The leadership from a knowledgeable Patient Safety/Quality Improvement Specialist is crucial to the success of these initiatives. This role works in conjunction with patient care departments and medical staff departments in an effort to maximize OSF’s commitment to a culture of safety and quality for every patient, every time. 

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

 

3 – 5 years clinical experience in a hospital setting

 

State of Illinois Nursing License

 

Certification in Patient Safety within 2 years of hire

 

 

Interpersonal skills necessary to present ideas and information, lead process/safety/quality improvement teams, and effectively present reports and recommendations to various departments, committees and leadership.

 

Analytical skills necessary to gather both quantitative and qualitative data necessary in finding creative solutions to difficult and complex problems.

 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.

 

Must be a results oriented change agent who possesses effective critical thinking skills. 

 

Process improvement skills required to implement process improvement methodologies which may include but are not limited to the 6 Sigma tools and methodologies such as root cause analysis, critical event analysis and FMEA. 

 

Must be able to manage ambiguity, work effectively with all staff, and be able to manage multiple priorities.

 

Must have intermediate skills in word processing and spreadsheet applications

 

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

3-5 years’ experience in performance improvement, patient safety science tools and methodologies
