DescriptionReports to Manager EMS/Emergency Management and project teams to improve the emergency preparedness of OSF Saint James Medical Center. This position will coordinate the disaster and emergency response of OSF Saint James Medical Center, developing plans and training that will meet The Joint Commission and other accreditation standards. Integrates medical facilities and EMS Systems within the community in order to provide a heightened emergency response to a disaster.
Knowledge of state and federal regulations with regards to healthcare safety issues, emergency management planning and preparation of reports and statistical analysis.
Knowledge of management principles and practices normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent level of work experience.
Completion of all requisite NIMS training within 90 days of hire. PERC Card within 60 days.
Approximately three to five years progressively more responsible related work experience necessary in order to gain a thorough understanding of emergency management, safety and EMS/Trauma education.
Background in emergency, disaster, hazardous materials and prolonged care medicine in relation to disasters and terrorism preferred.
Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively with Medical Center employees, hospitals, EMS Systems, government and insurance agencies, and other officials when making emergency management and safety, and to present training programs in safety, health and fire prevention to employees.
Analytical skills necessary in order to evaluate and make recommendations regarding emergency management issues.
Ability to design lesson plans, course coordinate, and assist/conduct realistic simulated training
Ability to articulate complex concepts both orally and in writing. Includes various public speaking events.
Must have above average computer skills. Ability to communicate and share ideas over email and World Wide Web.
Interpersonal skills necessary to present ideas and information, lead project teams and to effectively present reports and recommendations to top Medical Center management.
