Description

The Educator, Vascular Access Technician performs training and education of all employees by classroom and on the job training. Develops performance plans and conducts competency assessments on all employees within the department.

Obtains blood through phlebotomy and vascular access devices and other specialized culture samples for laboratory testing according to physician’s orders.  Accurately labels specimens and transports same to laboratory for analysis.  Registers patients in hospital’s information system, interprets physicians’ orders, obtaining clarification from physician or nurse when needed and prepares collection lists and labels when needed.  Orders procedures in the laboratory computer system, and sets billing flag to enable correct charging of procedures.  Develops and generates a variety of statistical reports.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

High School diploma or equivalent.

 

Phlebotomy Certification

PBT (ASCP) or able to obtain certification within one year of hire


2 years of phlebotomy experience
