Description

Coordinate and direct the work of Specimen Processors engaged in specimen receipt/processing duties in a high-volume, fast paced, production-like environment. Responsible for scheduling daily work assignments, ensuring adequate staffing, establishing work priorities, and organizing and assigning work to staff. Serve as the point of escalation to resolve routine and complex order submission problems, as well as customer service issues. Participate in performance monitoring, orientation, mentoring, recognition and education of Central Processing staff. Monitor the efficiency, productivity, and performance of the unit through direct observation, and collection and review of data and reports. Assess workflows and quality data for process improvement opportunities. Develops and revises departmental workflows, policies, and procedures. Ensure provision of high quality services and compliance with department, medical center and regulatory requirements and safety standards. Manage departmental Epic work queues to facilitate timely processing of laboratory billing.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

High School Diploma or equivalent

 

Minimum 1 year experience in a high volume, fast-paced, customer-oriented setting

 

Minimum 1 year experience in a laboratory, healthcare, or leadership role

 

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and website navigation

 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

 

Positive, professional attitude and demeanor

 

High attention to detail in order to verify/match letters and numbers to prevent mislabeling

 

Organized, able to prioritize and multi-task in a fast paced environment, with tight turnaround times

 

Maintain composure while working under pressure; ability to perform job duties with frequent interruptions and/or distractions

 

Critical thinking, problem solving skills, decisive judgment and follow through

 

Strong interpersonal skills to direct team daily, coach and motivate for performance, and interact and communicate effectively with other health care professionals in and outside of the laboratory

 

High level of professionalism in stressful situations; must possess conflict management skills

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Associates or Bachelor degree, preferably in a science, healthcare, or management field

 

2 years of clinical laboratory experience, preferably in Central Processing
