Description

The Clinical Nurse Educator functions autonomously and in collaboration with the health care team in advanced clinical practice, education, and leadership roles. Reporting to the Patient Care Manager and the Manager of Clinical Nursing Education, is responsible for providing appropriate education to the professional and nonprofessional staff of assigned unit(s) which includes assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating orientation and continuing education programs in a effort to enhance the quality of patient care services. Ensures such programs are based on the principle of delivering care appropriate to the ages of the patients served on the unit. Collaborates with other educators to develop, implement, and evaluate learning opportunities. The following are general characteristics of this job.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

The job incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit(s). 

 

This requires that the incumbent demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the patient population served.

 

 

Work requires a professional level of knowledge of nursing practice and theory at a level that generally can be acquired by completion and graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.

 

 

Current State license as a Registered Nurse required.

 

 

Bachelor's degree from an approved School of Nursing required.

 

 

Work requires 2 to 3 years of progressively increasing responsible work experience in order to develop proficiencies in delivering patient care services and to develop and demonstrate proven leadership skills required by the position.

 

 

Work requires the interpersonal, intellectual and communication skills necessary to develop and present educational programs to staff as well as to provide comfort and instruction to patients and their families that facilitates staff learning and high quality patient care.

 

 

Work requires analytical ability necessary to identify and assess the learning needs of staff on assigned unit(s) and develop education programs that meet their needs.
