Job Description

Description

Follows established policies, procedures, and performs and records Echocardiology diagnostic tests. In doing so, obtains information about normal and abnormal anatomy used to diagnosis disease. Ensures echo exams are of acceptable quality and records results. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit(s). 

 

This requires that the incumbent demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the patient population served.

 

 

Eligible for certification as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) (Preferred) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). 

 

The job incumbent must take the registry exam within 6 months of employment if graduated from an approved Echocardiology school. 

 

The job incumbent must take the registry exam within 2 years of employment if on the job training is provided by the medical center.

 

 

Requires a Bachelor Degree or an Associate in Applied Science Degree to be eligible to take the certification exam.

 

 

Communicates effectively with patients when allaying fears and eliciting cooperation, and to relay patient information to physicians and nursing personnel.

 

 

Requires analytical ability to recognize anatomic abnormalities, adjust equipment settings to appropriately target the ultrasound, and identify irregularities during course of ultrasound and notify appropriate personnel.

 

 

Prioritizes and organize daily work load while paying close attention to detail.

 

 

Requires BLS certification

 

 

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Preferred knowledge of cardiac anatomy and procedures at a level that generally can be acquired through previous cardiac experience
