Description

Telephone triage is a subspecialty that involves timely evaluation of patient symptoms via the phone; the information specialists create a positive patient experience by answering and prioritizing incoming patient calls before routing to triage nurses for clinical evaluation.

Information specialists function independently as an answering service representative for specific contracted specialty provider groups by connecting the caller directly to the on-call provider, as appropriate. They relay messages to pertinent Mission Partners, utilizing close attention to detail and patient confidentiality.

Information Specialists are responsible for additional duties within the After Hours Call Center: supporting callers with OSF MyChart questions/issues; referring callers for new patient appointments with OSFMG providers; assisting with SFMC patient response calls; and assisting callers with registration for classes/seminars. They also are accountable for completing patient surveys for customer satisfaction and performing a variety of clerical duties. Information Specialists must demonstrate competency in multiple computer programs, be well versed in customer service delivery, and excel in telephone skills/etiquette.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

A high school diploma or equivalency

 

Basic computer and keyboarding skills are required, with a minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

College background in a health-related field, including knowledge of medical terminology, is preferred.

 

Electronic Medical Record and Microsoft application basic proficiency
