Description

The Biomedical Equipment Repair Technician II (BMET II) position at OSF HealthCare System is a mid-level position for the provision of general and specialized medical equipment repair and limited mentoring of other Biomeds in support of the maintenance of clinical equipment installed throughout the OSF HealthCare System. The BMET II serves primarily at the facility, and as needed at the regional level acting as a technical resource for key stakeholders throughout the OSF HealthCare System. Key stakeholders include all others in the Clinical Engineering department, OSF point of care clinicians and other local staff.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Associates Degree in Biomedical Equipment or Electronics Technology, military electronics training. 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • Eligibility for certification from the International Certification Commission (ICC) as a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET).
  • Successful completion of two or more qualified vendor or third party service schools.
  • 2 to 3 years of experience as a Biomedical Equipment Technician.
  • Working knowledge of Joint Commission and other applicable standards and regulations as they relate to the effective operation of the Clinical Engineering department.
  • Experience working with Computerized Medical Equipment Management software systems and relational databases.
  • Good working knowledge of a wide variety of clinical equipment with a working knowledge of various job elements performed by other Biomeds.
  • Ability to present complex data in a concise format.
  • Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Excellent general office computer skills and the ability to process detailed information in an accurate manner.
  • Ability to use common bench, power and hand tools, and test equipment associated with the maintenance of medical equipment.
  • Fundamental knowledge of:
  • a. Anatomy and Physiology.
  • b. Public safety in healthcare facilities.
  • c. Fundamentals of electricity and electronics, pneumatics and mechanical principals.
  • d. Healthcare technology function and operation.
  • e. Healthcare technology problem solving.
  • f. Healthcare information technology.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • NET+ and A+ Certification preferred.
