Reporting to the Manager of Adult Day Services, coordinates a program of therapeutic activities in accordance with a comprehensive participant assessment to meet the physical, mental and psychosocial well-being as well as individualized needs and interests. Plan, implements and facilitates activities for various level of cognitive functioning, physical limitations and disabled. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to establish a person centered care plan to follow when in attendance at the Adult Day Service Program.
The job incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide activity programming appropriate for the Senior World participants.
Work requires knowledge of current theory and practice in therapeutic and rehabilitative recreation/leisure.
Bachelor’s degree Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Music Therapy, Art Therapy, or related Social Service field preferred.
3 years’ experience in a therapeutic inpatient or outpatient program
Experience working in an aging or developmentally disabled environment.
Work requires the interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with participants and families when gathering and exchanging information.
Work requires a valid driver’s license as verified through the Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles driving record abstract.
Training or ability and willingness to acquire skills needed to care for those with dementia including transfer techniques, activities of daily living assistance, appropriate exercise for the elderly, creative and recreational activities, care plan development, and emergency/first aid skills such as CPR, etc.
Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, and time-management skills required.
Ability to make sound judgments and decisions on a daily basis required.
Personable, well-rounded, mature individual with genuine interest in and awareness of the physical and emotional needs of those with dementia highly desired.
Ability to perform complex tasks requiring independent knowledge and its application to non-routine situations as well as exercise of independent judgment.
