Description

Responsible for supporting management in the billing and collection of accounts receivable for professional and facility claims including but not limited to inpatient and outpatient, physician office, Home Care and Hospice accounts, cash application and reconciliation and/or resolving patient service issues. This position requires basic understanding of the Revenue Cycle and the importance of evaluating and securing all appropriate financial resources for patients to maximize reimbursement to the health system. The Patient Accounts Associate must also have basic knowledge of accounting, healthcare, and general office procedures, and be capable of communicating clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, with peers, supervisors, payors, physicians, patients, other departments, etc.

This position impacts the clinical and financial integrity of the organization.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Completion of high school or its equivalent. 

 

Minimum of 1 year experience in an office clerical setting or customer service environment. 

 

Typing speed of 35 wpm with 90% accuracy.

 

Experience with office applications and Internet. 

 

Requires basic knowledge of standard PC word processing and website navigation.

 

Within 1 year of date of hire, complete required revenue cycle education provided by department and obtains corresponding certification.

 

Requires strong attention to detail and ability to obtain and record information accurately.

 

Requires communication skills to clearly and concisely communicate verbally and in writing with peers, supervisors, payors, physicians, patients, other departments, etc.

 

Ability to understand, interpret, evaluate and resolve basic patient service issues.

 

Basic problem solving skills to address payor and patient issues appropriately and know when to ask for assistance.

 

Requires conflict management skills, and time management skills.

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Basic knowledge of medical terminology

 

Basic knowledge of CPT4, ICD10, HCPCS, and modifiers

 

Experience with medical billing, including working with insurance companies, third party administrators, and collections with heavy emphasis on customer phone contact.

 

Experience working in a medical setting

 

Experience in scheduling and/or registration

 

Experience working with an electronic medical record system
