The Emergency Department Technician (EDT) performs any combination of the following duties in the care of patients in the hospital, under direction of a Registered Nurse. The role uses cognitive, effective, and psychomotor behaviors congruent with the status of an ED Tech. Provides care for patients and family/significant others across the life span based on physical, psycho-social, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of patients served in the patient care unit. The employee’s knowledge and practice of patient safety principles will be evaluated annually. Responsibility will include direct patient/family contact, departmental duties, material management, communication, and departmental housekeeping. Follows and understands the standards and recommended practices according to department standards such as AORN, ENA.
The EDT will not perform any procedure that requires licensing by the state of Illinois, unless LPN.
High school graduate or equivalent.
Certification as nursing assistant or EMT mandatory.
CPR certification required - American Heart Association HealthCare Provider BLS
Prior experience within the hospital environment is preferred.
