Description

 

Reporting to the Department Coordinator and Department Manager and according to established policies and procedures, and nursing standards, assesses, cares for, and teaches the graded exercise stress test patients. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to operate graded exercise stress monitoring equipment in order to provide data to physicians for use in diagnosing and treating heart disorders/disease.  In doing so, administers medications to patients according to standard protocol and as ordered by the Physician, arranges equipment, gathers pertinent patient information, explains test procedure to patients, attaches leads, and operates equipment.  Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served.

 

This position travels to three locations: Saint Francis Medical Center, OSF CVI- Peoria and OSF CVI- Pekin.

 

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires a professional level of knowledge of nursing practice and theory at a level that generally can be acquired by completion and graduation as a registered nurse from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Requires approximately two or more years of work experience which includes (preferably) at least three months prior EKG experience and approximately one to three months of on-the-job training and experience in order to learn how to set up and operate stress testing equipment, monitor strips, process and edit tracings, and successful completion of SFMC Cardiac Rhythm Course within one year to recognize abnormal heart rhythms and artifacts in test data.
  • Current State license as a Registered Nurse.
  • Maintains Basic Life Support certification. 
  • Requires a high level of interpersonal skills necessary to work with patients, clients, physicians, and Medical Center personnel.
  • Requires analytical ability necessary to assess patient’s physical and emotional condition.

     

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ACLS and PALS certification strongly recommended but not required.
