Description

The Patient Access Associate ensures each registered patient has a complete and accurate OSF record, which includes patient demographics, insurance coverage, responsible guarantor and clinical information to assure financial integrity and registration precision of the account.  Exceptional customer service skills are expected of the employee to create an exceptional first impression of OSF’s services to the patients, families, and other external customers over the phone or in person.  Information is articulated to patients, guarantors, and family members in a manner which they understand what services they are receiving, expectations of them while at the facility, and their financial responsibilities for the services provided.  A high degree of deductive reasoning and logic skills are necessary in order to solve issues that can arise in a complex, multi-payer situation.

This position impacts the clinical and financial integrity of the organization.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Completion of high school or its equivalent. 

 

Minimum of 1 year experience in an office clerical setting or customer service environment. 

 

Typing speed of 35 wpm with 90% accuracy.

 

Experience with office applications and Internet. 

 

Requires basic knowledge of standard PC word processing and website navigation.

 

Within 1 year of date of hire, complete required revenue cycle education provided by department and obtains corresponding certification.

  

Strong attention to detail and ability to obtain and record information accurately.

 

Communication skills to clearly and concisely communicate verbally and in writing with peers, supervisors, payors, physicians, patients, other departments, etc.

 

Ability to understand, interpret, evaluate and resolve basic patient service issues.

 

Basic problem solving skills to address payor and patient issues appropriately and know when to ask for assistance.

 

Conflict management and time management skills.

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Basic knowledge of medical terminology

 

Basic knowledge of CPT4, ICD10, HCPCS, and modifiers

 

Experience working in a medical setting

 

Experience in scheduling and/or registration

 

Experience in cash collection

 

Experience working with an electronic medical record system.
