Description

The Patient Access Manager is responsible for oversight, planning, directing, and evaluating daily operations that focus on strategy, trend analysis, SWOT analysis.  This position oversees personnel and functions of one or more of the following; including scheduling, pre-registration, outpatient registration, emergency room registration, inpatient and same day admissions, financial clearance, insurance eligibility, benefits verification, authorization/referral management, payor notification, cash collections, and financial counseling functions.

  

The Patient Access Manager ensures the collection of comprehensive and accurate demographic and financial data to optimize timely billing and collection of accounts receivable, supervising and monitoring personnel daily, communicating regularly with staff and supervisor to keep abreast of issues and to provide evaluations/feedback, carrying out organizational policies and procedures, recruiting/retaining/training staff, and establishing unit goals and objectives. Excellent patient service skills are expected to create an exceptional first impression of OSF’s services to the patients, families, and other external patients over the phone or in person.

 

 

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, healthcare management or other related field or equivalent experience of 8-10 years in revenue cycle or medical office experience which includes 1-2 years in a leadership type position

 

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an office clerical setting or customer service environment. 

 

 A minimum of 1 year direct experience in a healthcare revenue cycle or medical setting.

 

Working knowledge of office applications and Internet navigation.

 

Experience in a team lead, performance improvement, or leadership position.

 

Required to complete all revenue cycle training and certification. Levels I, II, and III of Litmos must be completed within one year of hire.

 

Typing speed of 35 wpm within 90% accuracy.

 

Problem solving, conflict management, time management, communication skills all required.

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

5 years of experience in a team lead, performance improvement, or leadership position.

 

Nationally recognized Revenue Cycle certification is preferred (NAHAM, AAHAM, HFMA).

 

Advanced working knowledge of CPT4, ICD9/10, HCPCS, and modifiers.

 

Working knowledge of medical terminology.
