Description

The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN), according to professional nursing standards of care, performs a variety of advanced nursing diagnostic procedures for the seriously ill and dying patient in the medical center. Works in collaboration with a physician and other members of the Patient Care Services interdisciplinary team to deliver palliative care and health care services to seriously ill patients. Provides nursing care according to physician's orders and in conformance with the ANA Standards of Practice and Care, ANA Code of Ethics, Unit specific Standards, Patient Services policies and procedures, unit specific policies and procedures, and the Illinois Nurse and Advanced Practice Act. The RN is responsible and accountable for individual autonomous nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks and nursing activities in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Master’s Degree in Nursing

 

Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience

 

National Certification within 3 years of hire

 

IL license as a Registered Nurse

 

IL Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse

 

IL Advanced Practice Nurse controlled substance license

 

Controlled substance registration certificate

 

Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

 

Computer experience (word processing and data analysis)

 

Understanding of the principles of performance improvement, case management, discharge planning, utilization review, and medical records

 

Understands the basics workings of Joint Commission, DRG’s, and Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care reimbursement.

 

Has a proven record of teamwork

 

Ability to work independently

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

 

Doctoral degree in nursing is preferred

 

National Certification preferred (Hospice, Palliative Care)

 

Experience with seriously ill patients and families will be given preference
