This position is eligible for an optional sign-on bonus

 

Specializes in Surgical Services offered in different practice areas under the direction of the RN. Performs activities such as scrub person, first assistant, educator, transporter, assistant circulator, and housekeeper. Prepares and operates equipment needed in the care of the patient. Understands and follows the standards and recommended practices according to AORN when assisting physicians during treatments, procedures and examinations. Recognizes significant conditions and reactions and notifies the RN, Charge Nurse, Anesthesia Charge Doctor, and/or the patient’s Physician of the patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments and significant incidents. Demonstrates knowledge and practice of patient safety principles through annual evaluations Assumes responsibility for: family contact, departmental duties, personnel responsibilities, material management, communication, and housekeeping responsibilities.  Performs as scheduled in the “on-call” requirements for Surgery.  This includes responding within departmental time parameters.  Provides care for patients and family/significant others across the life span based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of patients served in assigned service area.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Graduate of approved school of practical nursing, operating room technician program or military training program. 

 

Other applicants evaluated on individual basis

 

Healthcare Provider CPR prior to employment or eligible for recertification during pre-clinical orientation

 

Basic understanding of appropriate standards and recommended practices.

 

Knowledge of nursing process to assess, analyzes, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care under supervision of a RN. 

 

Possesses current comprehensive knowledge and skills in health care. 

 

Has understanding of confidentiality, shows problem identification, conflict resolution, and resource locating skills.

 

 

Skills and Abilities:

      • Good communication skills

      • Ability to operate various types of equipment.

      • Demonstration of aseptic technique and principles

      • Demonstration of use of standard precautions and approved isolation techniques

      • Basic scrubbing skills for a variety of specialties

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Previous Surgical Technician Experience.
