Reporting to the Laboratory Section Manager, assists management in overseeing and directing work of technical personnel engaged in performing various routine and complex laboratory tests in order to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of disease. In doing so, establishes work priorities, organizes and assigns work to Clinical Laboratory employees. Performs more complex and/or non-routine testing procedures and regularly checks validity and accuracy of test results obtained by laboratory personnel. Performs the duties of a CLS/MT 1 on a regular basis. The following are general characteristics of this job, although duties may vary based on assigned area and/or shift.
A bachelor’s degree in clinical/medical laboratory science or medical technology is required.
Successful completion of the ASCP Board of Certification MLS/MTexam within the first year of employment is also required.
Alternative bachelor’s degrees are acceptable with successful completion of ASCP MLS/MT certification exam prior to employment.
1 plus years of experience of relevant Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist experience.
Ability to read and follow policies and procedures written in English.
Ability to understand written and spoken English.
Ability to remember and to understand the written and spoken word.
Knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
Analytical skills necessary to direct laboratory operations on a day-to-day basis, effectively administer departmental policies, procedures and budgets, and to resolve account, equipment, technical and employee relations problems.
Ability to manage and to work on several projects at one time with good organizational skills, judgment and technical skills.
Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with staff, patients, and other health care professionals.
High level of professionalism and skillful performance in stressful situations.
Must be able to access patient care areas as necessary and perform phlebotomy procedures.
Maintains current certification according to guidelines established by appropriate certifying agency.
